The 2009 MACY Awards will be held
at Noon on Sunday, May 17, 2009
At the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts
4 May, 2009
A very exciting opportunity has come our way and MACY is thrilled, honored and blessed, to now be partnered
with McCoy/Rigby Entertainment. This new partnership will take the MACY beyond today and into the future.
John and Lee Childress built their organization on their love of education in the arts, recognizing,
encouraging and rewarding achievements and excellence through high school musical theatre and McCoy/Rigby
shares this same philosophy. As Lee says, this is “Beyond the Beyond” for all our schools and students.
Look for some new and exciting opportunities for our MACY schools and students in the years to come!
Exciting News from the MACY Awards!!!
For the first time in the 39 years of the MACY, MACY award winners along with dozens of the best high-school musical actors and actresses from across the U.S. will have an opportunity to compete on Broadway for a “National Award”, named after renowned theater owner and producer, James M. Nederlander.
The MACY Awards is pleased to announce that we have been invited to participate in the “The National High School Musical Theater Awards”. In addition to the MACY Awards honoring and recognizing the numerous students from our local high schools, we will now be able to send our best actor and actress to New York for this unique opportunity.
MACY sponsors will fund their trip.
Our students, along with about 60 youths from 30 regions around the country, will make this journey to audition. Twenty finalists will be selected to compete for the grand award and possible college scholarships. Those not selected as a finalist will participate in ensemble productions during this nationally televised event. This will give our students their first taste of performing on a Broadway stage!
The “National High School Musical Theatre Awards” program is sponsored by The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and the Nederlander organization. The awards will be called the “Jimmy” after James M. Nederlander, the patriarch of that organization. The 2009 competition will be held at the Palace Theatre on Broadway.
This exciting opportunity complements the existing MACY program, which for 39 years has recognized and honored all our precious students. You all are “Beyond the Beyond!”
We love each and every one of you. “Break a leg!”
Blessings to you all!
