THE MACY STORY

lee and john

In 1971, Lee and John Childress realized the need to recognize the accomplishments and hard work of the talented performing arts high school students in Los Angeles, California. With help from the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Sam Yorty, Lee and John founded MACY.

After moving to Laguna Beach, Lee and John transferred the MACY headquarters to Orange County, California.

The MACY Judges spend countless hours each year attending the various high school musical play productions (now spanning Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties), and in the preparation of the Annual MACY Awards Ceremony.

College scholarships are also awarded to a select number of qualified graduating high school seniors.
